Exhibit 3

B06-Chase_Weber.jpg

This photo was taken in the upper bay just off of Manhattan. I wanted to bring out an array of colors to highlight the diversity, energy, and possibility that New York City has to offer.

To begin, I went through the process of making the photo look like a black and white sketch. This included: Adjusting the hue saturation, changing the blend mode to color dodge, inverting the photo, applying a gaussian blur, and adjusting the levels.

I wanted to carry the look into the font as an element of repetition in the display. I used Bodini 72 Smallcaps. Lightening the opacity of the text helped to best connect to the black and white of the photo.

The array of colors came from an added color layer of gradient fill. This contrasts from the black and white of the rest of the photo. Lightening the opacity of the gradient better blended the color with the sketch of the city.

I aligned the wording under the city line to create an easy to read and aesthetically pleasing text. The proximity creates a clear left to right, top to bottom view.
